The Book of Revelation, is one message to the people of the earth. It was given to John as a vision of what is coming. It is meant to be a time of preparation, giving people time to respond before the judgments are poured out. Even as we describe the judgments of God, they are meant to draw men to God in repentance. God is giving grace and an opportunity for sinners to repent, and escape not just temporary wrath, but eternal wrath as well.
