Chapter 2 could be called the defense by Paul, as he addresses the charges brought against him of being a charlatan teacher for hire. His defense is built upon his own behavior and care for the believers in Thessalonica. Paul did not come to get something, but to give something. He gave them the truth, at the cost and peril of his own life. He gave his soul, so they could understand the greatest need of their own soul.
In short, Paul gave of himself, so they could become disciples. A disciple maker will move people to a closer relationship with Jesus. Christ does not just call us to be disciples, but to be disciple makers.
