In a land that was promised and through blood attained
Captive Israel sought for a Savior who, through blood, would reclaim
Everything they had lost—what had been wrung out from their bones,
Through years of violence and bondage at the hands of more than just Rome.
When Israel dreamt of a king, they envisioned a reign
Defined by matchless strength that would avenge their pain.
They desired a savior, whose vision would be completed
When Israel was once again a strong and all their enemies defeated.
But when the long-awaited Savior came, His entrance wasn’t bold
And how Christ would save was a new and different way to behold.
What Israel didn’t expect is that their Savior’s cry
Would be one so counter to their expectations, calling them to die
To see that their sin and empty religion was an eternal, hellish sentence
That could only be overturned through faith and repentance.
Unlike any other deliverer, whose success depends on their life,
Christ’s distinct purpose in salvation was that He was born to die
In desperate need of promised redemption that was through His blood made
Jesus then rose from the dead, eternally conquering the grave.
He is the only Savior for sinners—that’s everyone, including you and me—
The Savior long awaited, expected, despised and rejected is calling you to believe.
